Be nice(& ask) in the supermarket - 100 pounds of free (well kind of)rice
 

Visit the sister on the Jersey border, their supermarket, shop - rite, has some serious deals sometimes, half price stuff.
Anyway, Sister has a card that gets them discounts and keeps track of their total purchases and the place runs deals couple times a year based on your volume. She had a - get a free ham/turkey whatever if you spend x amount by Easter- coupon. She never used hers, was gonna toss it til I saw it on the counter bowl. So I borrow her card and say, Let me go see what I can finagle with the manager.
Go speak to him and tell him , look, we missed the coupon rebate on our purchases due to vaca etc blah blah, he's real nice and says okay, prints out her total , looks it over, gives us an in store credit for $29.99, says we can go ahead and use it anywhere, not just on another ham/turkey.

I spot these bad boys on the weekly specials at the head of the freezer isle:

Grab five of 'em and head to the register with some 1/2 price motor oil, 1/2 price folgers half-caf coffee, about 20 pounds of Kosher Salt at 40% off (I've started brining my chicken prior to cooking, story for another thread- and deserves one!) and milk and a cake for my sisters kid.
Girl says its a limit four per customer, even though sign said one, but a little sweet talk to the cashier manager and we're good to go.
100 pounds of rice for nothing (my sister saiud go ahead and knock yourself out - she didn't think we'd get the manager to haggle and besides , they don't do storgae (I've tried) and don't really eat rice.)

Moral- be nice , shmooze with , the supermarket managers.
You have to learn to ask. Do not be shy. Be the squeaky wheel. It gets the oil.
This guy was a prince , but if he hadn't been, I'f have tried making a scene , whatever .
Little matter of schmooozing with this guy , laughing and talking, (and he was a nice guy too, not like I was being a total predator faker)
Look, around here, they call it being a J**. Whatever.
Learn it. Use it . Now while it still works.
100 lbs of rice'l feed my family for month+ if it came to it people.
Was trying not to open the wallet and all as per my other thread, and was just gonna try to finagle the coupon with no other purchase until I saw the motor oil.
And the 50% off Folgers half caf. That's what we drink at home.
Sometimes you gotta spend a bean or two I guess. God I'm cheap.

Being cheap may be a survival skill very soon. That is a great story. You turned trash (where the coupon was going) into good food and a lot of it, and it was a pleasant experience, probably for everyone.
